If the machine is connect to a fax modem, you can customize the fax settings via the Fax applet in the control panel. This applet has the following tabs :

On this tab you can use the Open, New, Add and Delete buttons to modify cover pages. When you select Open or Add a Fax cover modify program is started to create cover pages. These pages are stored in a .cov format.
| Display the status monitor. Open the fax status monitor automatically when a fax is send or received. Default on. | |
| Status monitor always on top. Default off. | |
| Display icon in task bar. Default on. | |
| Play a sound. Play a sound when receiving a fax. Default off. | |
| Enable manual answer for the first device. Activate this setting if also normal phone calls are received on the telephone line connected to the machine. Default off. |
The tab provides three options :
| Open Fax Service Management console. This console shows the fax devices with their properties (Send, TSID, receive, CSID, printer to print faxes, folder to store faxes) and the logging options. | |
| Open Fax Service Management help. | |
| Add a fax printer. Adds the fax to the printer console. |
Various remarks :
| Fax printers cannot be shared. | |
| By default a fax printer is only set to send faxes. You have to enable receiving faxes on the Receive tab. You should also set the Answer mode to Automatic. | |
| You have to start the fax service. It is set to start manually by default. | |
| You can start the Fax Service Management console and open the Fax queue
via Start - Programs - Accessories - Communication - Fax. |
